Slapping the backboard and causing the ring to vibrate has nothing to do with goaltending or basket interference. It is a technical foul if there is intentional contact. There are four ingredients involved:

1. Try or tap is in flight
2. The ball is touching the backboard.
3. The ball is on or within the basket.
4. The ball is within the cylinder.

Remember, it is just a technical foul. In National Federation, the technical is on the player and counts towards the player's five (5) fouls and towards the bonus. Also remember, no basket is awarded if the shot is missed.
